Rasa Across Borders

March 27 & 28, 2026

Rooted in the South Asian aesthetic concept of rasa—a framework that explores how emotions shape human experience—Rasa Across Borders brings together artists and community collaborators from the United States, India, and Pakistan to examine how emotion, identity, and culture move across borders. Blending visual imagery, sound, movement, and multilingual storytelling, the project explores questions that resonate across disciplines: How do emotions shape social belonging? How do gender and identity intersect with cultural traditions? And how can collaborative artistic practices foster dialogue across national, linguistic, and political boundaries? Developed in partnership with community organizations Anandam for Equality and Justice in Kolkata and Gender Interactive Alliance in Karachi, this transnational project models a sustainable approach to collaborative creative research. Through a series of performances and exchanges between artists and scholars, the work invites audiences to engage with themes of cultural expression, social justice, and global interconnectedness.
