Infinite Impact: Poetry in Motion Capture

March 23, 2026

Infinite Impact: Poetry in Motion Capture is an embodied digital humanities project situated at the intersection of performance, technology, and immersive media. Written and performed by Lacroy “Atlas” Nixon, Inaugural Poet Laureate of Williamsburg, the program features three original poems that examine history’s hauntings, moral responsibility, and the far-reaching consequences of individual action. Developed in collaboration with the CSUSB Motion Capture for Theatre Arts Lab, led by Kristi Papailler, the project uses motion‑capture technology to translate Nixon’s live performance into a digital avatar and immersive virtual environments. Alongside its artistic goals, Infinite Impact highlights the broader potential of motion capture tools for research, analysis, and creative experimentation. Motion capture can support inquiry in fields such as data science, psychology, anthropology, kinesiology, education, computer science, gaming, design, and performance studies. By transforming embodied expression into movement data and XR experience, this project demonstrates how digital tools can open new pathways for interdisciplinary teaching, storytelling, modeling, and interpretation across the curriculum at 91心頭利.
