SCP Faculty Fellowships Program History

Strategic Cultural Partnerships is privileged to work with exceptional faculty across a variety of disciplines. Funding from our generous donors allows us to support the work of these talented scholars of all ranks and appointments, who strive to find common ground and develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Faculty Fellowships support the university's mission and help contribute to the strategic goals of Vision 2026. 2023–2024 SCP Faculty Fellowship Cohort

Troy Wiipongwii — Director of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Institute for Integrative Conservation — Consulting and supporting grassroots Indigenous efforts across campus.

Leslie W. Grant — Associate Professor of Education, School of Education — Collaboratively developing innovative systems for curriculum design with K–12 educators relevant to the Williamsburg Bray School.

Molly Mitchell — Assistant Professor, Batten School of Coastal & Marine Sciences & VIMS — Leveraging mapping and GIS technology to highlight historical Algonquian place names.

Buck W. Woodard — Assistant Professor of Anthropology, College of Arts & Sciences — Engaging with Brafferton Indian School Descendant Communities.

Holly Maples — Professor of Theatre, College of Arts & Sciences — Creating immersive heritage performances to reveal hidden histories of Virginia heritage sites.

Kirstin Wustholz — Margaret Hamilton Professor of Chemistry, College of Arts & Sciences — Revealing the fugitive palette of early American painters and paintings.

Laura P. Guerrero — Assistant Professor of Philosophy, College of Arts & Sciences — Developing a philosophy class that uses visual art to reflect on questions of metaphysics.

Holly White — Adjunct Professor of History, College of Arts & Sciences — Launching a public history initiative for K–6 students highlighting children's often overlooked roles in the American Revolution.

Marcus Holmes — Professor of Government; Chair, Department of Government, College of Arts & Sciences — Leading a student-driven project exploring Indigenous diplomacy in colonial Virginia.

Phil Wagner — Clinical Associate Professor, Raymond A. Mason School of Business — Integrating museum partnerships into the Organizational Reckoning Winter Seminar through the Washington Center.

Paul Manna — Isabelle and Jerome E. Hyman Distinguished University Professor of Government, College of Arts & Sciences — Expanding partnerships with the Cape Charles Rosenwald School Restoration Initiative to develop training programs to help community members engage more effectively in civic processes.

Mitch Brown — Assistant Professor of Classics, College of Arts & Sciences — Investigating how Greek and Roman antiquity influenced Thomas Jefferson and George Wythe to illuminate how their classical education shaped founding democratic ideals.

Jennifer Bickham-Mendes, Katherine Barko-Alva, and Sarah Hart — Professor of Sociology / Associate Professor of ESL / Assistant Professor of Theatre — Expanding the Aprendiendo Juntos initiative, using participatory theatre integrated into English-learning workshops to empower immigrant families.
