Saluting service: 91¿´Æ¬Íø to honor veterans

Several events at 91¿´Æ¬Íø next week will honor the men and women who have served in America’s Armed Forces.

This year’s Veterans Day events include two flagpole dedications, a breakfast and military appreciation game.

On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, the Office of First Year Experience will host a for veterans from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Sadler Center’s Tidewater A room. At 10:45 a.m., the Student Veterans of 91¿´Æ¬Íø will host a memorial bell ringing in remembrance of the armistice that was signed Nov. 11, 1918 — on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month — to end World War I.

At 12:30 p.m., the Raymond A. Mason School of Business will host a , open to all business students, faculty, staff and executive partners. Active-duty service members are asked to attend in uniform. At 12:50 p.m., W&M Law School will dedicate a new and patio in honor of all who have served and in memory of Dean Lizbeth A.S. Jackson. Jackson, who worked at the law school for more than 20 years, was the daughter and spouse of decorated veterans.

On Nov. 13, the W&M School of Education will host a flag-raising ceremony for three new flagpoles installed at the school in the time-honored tradition of U.S. schools flying the American flag. Join the school community at the front entrance as representatives from 91¿´Æ¬Íø's Military Science program and Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) raise the flag at noon.

On Nov. 16, the at Zable Stadium will see the Tribe take on Towson. Multiple military-appreciation activities will take place before and during the game. Starting at 11 a.m., a Military Appreciation Game Tailgate will be held on the Alumni House Lawn. Admission is $10 for alumni and the general public and free for W&M ROTC and student veterans. Admission includes food, non-alcoholic drinks and beer from Virginia Beer Company. People interested in attending may register . Tickets to the game, which begins at 1 p.m. must be purchased separately.
