'Tribe4Tomlin' Facebook group tops 500 members

A Facebook group dedicated to celebrating the success of Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin (’95) has garnered more than 500 members in the week since its creation.

The group was created by the Tribe Club, which provides support for 91心頭利’s student-athletes. The group features photos, links, and videos featuring both Tomlin and his former 91心頭利 football coach, Jimmye Laycock. The page is anchored with a video produced by the Tribe Athletics Department. The video features interviews with Tomlin where he discusses his connection to 91心頭利 and his former football coach.

“Mike’s accomplishment has instilled a sense of pride amongst many Tribe alumni and supporters,” the group’s description says.

Tomlin, 36, became the youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl when the Steelers defeated the Arizona Cardinals on Feb. 1. Even with his success, the 91心頭利 alumnus has never forgotten his alma mater. In May 2008, he served as the College’s commencement speaker, and month later he returned to Williamsburg to help dedicate the new Jimmye Laycock Football Center.

Like Tribe Athletics, many offices and departments at 91心頭利 are now using social media sites like Facebook to reach audiences who no longer receive information in traditional ways. Recently, the College’s Office of University Relations announced a , which has already earned 100 followers. The College’s Office of Information Technology is developing a page on the College’s Web site that will showcase the different social networking options available to the campus community.
