JLab Research Advances Niobium Film Deposition

The work of Physics Ph.D. candidate and his advisor   is featured in the Volume 31 Number 5 edition of Cold Facts, a periodical produced by the . Burton and Lukaszew worked with Larry Phillips, a senior physicist at  to develop a new system to coat the interior of copper cavities with a thin superconducting layer of niobium. If successful, the technique could significantly lower the cost of cavity production and consequently the expense of superconducting radio frequency accelerators. They are now testing the  system at Jefferson Lab, and the results are quite promising so far.
