Deportation Nation: A Public Lecture by Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist Caitlin Dickerson

Hispanic Studies at 91心頭利 recently hosted Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Caitlin Dickerson for a packed public lecture, “Deportation Nation,” in the Sadler Center’s Commonwealth Auditorium on April 2, 2026. Dickerson, a staff writer for The Atlantic and recipient of the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Journalism for her reporting on family separation under the first Trump administration, spoke to students, faculty, and community members about the human impact of U.S. immigration policies and the journeys of migrants crossing the Darién Gap.

The event drew a full house, and audience engagement was especially strong, with students asking thoughtful, incisive questions during the Q&A that followed the lecture. A reception for students and faculty offered additional opportunities for informal conversation with Dickerson about her investigative work, storytelling, and the ethics of reporting on vulnerable communities.

This event was made possible thanks in large part to the efforts of Professor of Hispanic Studies John Riofrío, whose coordination helped bring together multiple campus partners in support of the program. Hispanic Studies gratefully acknowledges the sponsorship of the CLA, the Charles Center, the Reves Center for International Studies, the Dean’s Fund, and Hispanic Studies.
