Classical Studies Graduation 2020: Virtual Ceremony, Real Celebration

They say that the humanities, and particularly Classical Studies, are in decline.  You couldn't tell that from the 91心頭利 Classical Studies class of 2020, who received, virtually, their diplomas and post-baccalaureate certificates in an online ceremony on Saturday May 16.   This was one of our largest and most accomplished classes ever.  In the course of their careers at W&M the newly-minted graduates presented their research at regional and national conferences, won awards for their skills in Latin and Greek, studied abroad in Italy, Greece, France, and elsewhere; participated in archaeological excavations, and won admission to prestigious graduate programs.

Earning their baccalaureate in Classical Studies were Grace Burns, Cosmo Corthran-Bray, Mia Harris, Hana Liebman, Chalres Manning, Catherine Newell, Peter Psathas, Guy Rahat, Alessandra Scholle, Corbin Shiflett, Carson Sisk, Keegan Sudkamp-Tostevin, George Tomadakis, and Varvara Trokstsi.

Earning their post-baccalaureate certificates were Christina Monroe, Madeleine Nelson, Andrew Serio, Caroline Spurr, and Jordan Weisberg.

Also participating in the ceremony were five post-baccalaureate students who are leaving the program early for the very good reason that they have already secured positions in graduate school: Jordan Click, Becca Gaborek, Bailey Hall, and Catherine Newell.

Part of the ceremony was the awarding of our annual prizes for outstanding achievement:

William J. Hogan Award: Grace Burns and Peter Psathas

CAMWS award: Kate Newell

SCS award: Hana Liebman

Eta Sigma Phi Award: Cosmo Cothran-Bray

Congratulations to all the graduates!
