Biology Leadership Award
Overview
This competitive award is presented annually to a graduating Biology major who has made unique and valued contributions to the department and the broader university community.

Areas of Contribution
Candidates are evaluated based on their impact in one or more of the following key areas:
- Academics & Research: Exceptional contributions to the intellectual life of the lab or classroom.
- Student Mentoring: Guiding and supporting more junior students in their academic or research journeys.
- Service & Outreach: Significant involvement in departmental operations or community-facing science programs.
Eligibility & Evaluation
- Academic Standing: Must be a graduating senior.
- Evaluation Process: The Biology Undergraduate Studies Committee (USC) selects the recipient based on the detail and strength of faculty nomination letters.
Nomination & Submission Instructions
This award is driven primarily by faculty nominations. Students who believe they meet these criteria are encouraged to discuss a potential nomination with their faculty mentor.
Required Materials
- Faculty Nomination Letter: One or more letters from faculty members providing a detailed description of the candidate’s specific contributions to the department and university.
- Detail is Key: Letters should provide concrete examples of how the student’s service or leadership went above and beyond standard expectations.
How to Submit
Faculty members should submit nomination letters directly to the Chair of the Undergraduate Studies Committee.
