Israel-Trummel and W&M Alums examine how social movements influence political socialization
Collaborating with two 91心頭利 Government alums, Professor Mackenzie Israel-Trummel's latest research appeared in the February 2025 issue of the American Political Science Review. In the article, "", Professors Israel-Trummel, Anoll, & Engelhardt examine how social movements influence political socialization. Using Black Lives Matter protests as a case study, the authors show that the summer 2020 information environment shaped how parents prioritized race-related socialization. Their findings suggest that political events can meaningfully shift child-rearing approaches and influence future political orientations.
Currently, Allison Anoll, Class of 2009, is an Associate Professor at Vanderbilt University. Her book, The Obligation Mosaic: Race and Social Norms in US Political Participation, University of Chicago Press, was published in 2022. Drew Engelhardt, Class of 2013, is an Assistant Professor at SUNY, Stonybrook. His 2023 article, was published in the American Journal of Political Science.
