Prospective Students

The first step to determining your eligibility for federal need-based financial aid is to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Incoming freshmen and transfer students are also required to submit the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile for consideration for all the need-based financial aid resources. Virginia students who are non-immigrants, undocumented, have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status or are otherwise ineligible to file the FAFSA can still pursue financial assistance from the state of Virginia through the Virginia Alternative State Aid (VASA) application.

Application Deadlines

Our priority deadlines ensure the timely determination of your financial aid eligibility. You will still be able to submit your applications after the deadline, but this may delay the determination of your financial aid eligibility.

If you are applying to W&M as a Spring 2026 transfer student, you will need to make sure you have filed the 2025-26 FAFSA and the 2025-26 CSS Profile.

For students applying to W&M to enroll starting in Fall 2027, you will need to file the 2026-27 FAFSA and the 2026-27 CSS Profile, which are available as of October 1, 2025. For more information on the release of the 2026-27 FAFSA, please refer to the .
